Quote of the Day (50)

David de Bruyn’s morning email is a short prayer checklist entitled “When God Says ‘No’ ”. I’ve made them myself from time to time, and I’m sure I’ve done a post on the subject at some point over the years. You know what that looks like: “My prayer is not being answered in the affirmative, Lord. So what does your word say about that?”

What possible reasons might there be?

It’s an especially relevant subject for Yours Truly. I’ve had my own “No” or “Not yet” prayer moments these last few months. So I really like David’s final checklist item:

Is God’s ‘no’ producing more fruit in my life than His ‘yes’ would? ‘Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.’ (2 Corinthians 12:8-9) If God’s delay or ‘no’ brings more of His empowering grace, it may be that it is more beneficial for my soul, in the long run.”

Do I want that fruit the Lord’s “No” is currently producing in me? If I’m honest, not at every moment. But I should, and I know that ultimately I will.

I won’t reproduce David’s entire checklist, but you can find it here.
