Folks:
I’ve been reading this little book from Regular Baptist Press lately, and have been rather impressed, I have to say. Not since Ryrie’s Dispensationalism Today have I seen a good treatment of dispensationalism at a very readable and contemporary level. This one’s even simpler than Ryrie, but so far, it has all its ducks in a row.
It’s not long, it’s in big print, and at a level that somebody in their mid teens could handle. But it hits all the right notes. It ties things to issues like supersessionism and the priesthood of believers, yet without using any sort of confrontational tone. It’s steady but gracious in its approach. Whoever the guy is who wrote it, he’s clearly got a deep and happy relationship with dispensational exegesis, but also a knack for speaking in a way that people can easily absorb.
If I were trying to explain dispensationalism to somebody who knew nothing about it, I think I could do worse than pointing them to something like this. More importantly, if I were trying to edify my own congregation on dispensationalism in an approachable, non-threatening but highly relevant way, say in a men’s Bible study, an older young people’s group, or even a college and careers group, this little book would be just the ticket. It’s not out of the mental reach of an ordinary person, and for once, the questions it contains are actually useful for somebody who wants to understand proper interpretation skills to answer.
I don’t know if any of you are finding it’s time to refresh the Lord’s people’s memory on these matters, but you could spend the pittance it costs (US$6.25) to get this little book a lot worse than picking yourself up a copy. Just sayin’.
